There’s a special energy you feel while at these Black Lives Matter protests. You see so many faces - all ages, genders and races. They’re standing together and fighting for what’s right even In the midst of a pandemic. It was that important. To be a part of and witness the protests, in the nation’s capital, is something I’ll cherish and a story I’ll be sure to share with my children’s children - which is what led me to this piece. I needed to find a way to capture and document everything that was unfolding and also everything I felt. I also wanted to create something that would maintain everyone’s privacy. This painting is based off of a photo I took. I recreated them with pen and watercolor so there’s an element of discreteness.

I've attached a photo of myself in a mask.
